Beloved Ski Races Return To Northeast Resort Next Thanksgiving
After a season off, the wildly popular women's World Cup ski racing event will return to Killington, Vermont, next Thanksgiving weekend: the Stifel Killington Cup.
Expected to draw 40,000 fans, the race is scheduled to include slalom and giant slalom. According to Killington, big names like Mikaela Shiffrin, Federica Brignone, and Paula Moltzan are expected to compete.
The annual athlete bib draw is set for Friday, November 27, followed by giant slalom and slalom races on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29, 2026.
"The Stifel Killington Cup has become one of the premier women's alpine racing events on the World Cup circuit, and we're excited to bring it back to Vermont this November," said Sophie Goldschmidt, president and CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard, in a news release.
"Killington's fans and the broader New England ski community create an incredible atmosphere for our athletes, and we look forward to seeing that energy this winter," she continued.
Last winter, Copper Mountain, Colorado, hosted the women's races while Killington worked on a new lift, the Superstar Six, which cruised over the traditional racecourse, Superstar. Since the lift wasn't slated to open until after the Killington Cup, organizers decided that they couldn't do both.
But now, the Killington Cup is back. Aside from the break last winter-and another in 2020 during the pandemic-Killington has held the races every year since 2016. The upcoming show will be the ninth outing of the Killington Cup.
On the 2026-27 women's World Cup draft calendar, it joins a few other American races. In December, the calendar includes downhill and super-G races in Beaver Creek, Colorado. And the season is set to end again in Sun Valley, Idaho, for the finals. Sun Valley last hosted the finals in 2025.
The men have planned races in Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek. They'll also join the women for the send-off in Sun Valley, which includes every alpine racing discipline.
