Patrick Ewing Makes Emotional Tim Duncan, David Robinson Admission
Patrick Ewing finally got to watch the New York Knicks finish the job against the San Antonio Spurs, and it clearly meant a lot more than just another championship celebration. The Knicks' title brought an end to a 53-year wait, but for Ewing, it also brought back memories of 1999, when his own shot at a ring ended with Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and the Spurs standing in the way.
This time, Ewing was there in person as New York flipped the story, beat San Antonio, and gave one of the franchise's greatest players a moment of joy after years of heartbreak.
Speaking about witnessing the win live Ewing said, "(Tim Duncan) and (David Robinson) were having a party against us, (now) it's ours...In 1999, I had tears of sorrow, today I have tears of joy."

For so long, Patrick Ewing's Knicks story felt unfinished.
He gave New York everything during his playing days. The battles, the bruises, the deep playoff runs, the pressure of carrying a city that expected everything from him. But the one thing that would have completed the picture never arrived while he was in uniform.
That is what made this celebration different. Ewing was not just another former player smiling for cameras. He was someone who understood exactly how heavy that wait had been, because he had lived a big part of it himself.
The cruel part of Ewing's career is that his greatness was never really in question. He was one of the best big men of his generation, but the conversation around him always came back to the missing ring. Fair or not, that became part of how people discussed him.
This Knicks team changed the feeling around that old wound. Ewing has been close to the franchise again, spending time around the group and watching a new generation build something special. So when the title finally came, it was not hard to see why it hit him so deeply.
It was not the same as winning it as the star center, of course. But it was still New York. It was still the Knicks. And it was still a piece of history that included him.
For once, Ewing did not have to look back with regret. He could simply stand there, take it all in, and enjoy the moment.
