Spurs Fans Accuse Karl-Anthony Towns Of 'Weak' Move In NBA Finals

OG Anunoby tipping in the ball to take the lead in Game 4 may go down in history as one of the all-time great basketball plays. But there were still 1.2 seconds left on the clock after that moment that required a little extra effort from Karl-Anthony Towns to deliver the win to the Knicks.

On the final play, Spurs star Dylan Harper had the ball and was trying to find a teammate to throw it to. Towns was guarding him.

But as Towns tried to get his much larger body in front of Harper, he appeared to talk to a bunch of fans on the sideline and asked them to crowd around Harper to give him less space to move. Harper made a pass into the paint that Towns deflected, causing time to run out and secure the Knicks' 117-116 win.

Spurs fans have seen that moment from Towns though and have started calling him out for it online.

Home Court = Fair Play

NBA fans dismissed those concerns though, pointing out that it's part of the home court advantage that the Knicks get to enjoy at Madison Square Garden. Many even praised Towns for having the presence of mind to ask those fans for assistance.

"Everyone is just mad Karl Anthony Towns is outplaying Victor Wembanyama in the finals. Even though that's not saying much because Wembanyama might literally be the weakest big in the league. Victor is 7'4 and the league doesn't even consider him a big. Talk about weak," one user on X declared.

"KAT asking fans to get closer to Harper giving him no space to move around," a second user added. "Lol Weak [expletive]!"

"Home court advantage means something at the Garden," wrote another.

"I mean, it's a high IQ move to be honest. This one singular play doesn't make up for the lack of effort the spurs showed in 2nd half. 30 points in two quarters is really embarrassing," a third wrote.

"Weak? Bro, that's straight CHAMPIONSHIP IQ at the Garden🔥 KAT wasn't just playing defense - he was COACHING the whole building to suffocate Harper while y'all blew a 29-point lead like it was nothing 😂 Home court means EVERYTHING in MSG. Cry more, Spurs fans. We'll see you in SA for the closeout."

Whether or not the Spurs have a legitimate gripe here, they're not finding any sympathy from fans. Blowing that 29-point lead in the way that they did while also receiving what many believe to be favorable calls from the officials simply doesn't leave any room for comfort.
