Phillies Announce Season-Ending News Before Blue Jays Game
The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Wednesday that outfielder Johan Rojas will receive season-ending surgery.
Johan Rojas is currently serving an 80-game suspension after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance enhancing drug, this offseason. He would've been ineligible to play in the postseason.
Rojas had begun ramping up baseball activities in preparation for his return, with his suspension set to expire in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, after undergoing an evaluation it was revealed that the 25-year-old had suffered an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) tear that will require surgery to repair.
The surgery will keep Rojas on the shelf for the rest of the 2026 season, but he is expected to be ready for Spring Training in 2027.

Rojas is primarily a center fielder who boasts incredible defense and speed. He contributed for the Phillies in the major leagues from 2023 to 2025, he was the team's starting center fielder in 2023 and most of 2024.
Over his three seasons with the team, Rojas struggled at the plate while giving the team lots of value in center field and on the basepaths. Offensively, Rojas holds a career slash line of .252/.294/.340, good for a .634 OPS. In 250 games, he launched six home runs, stole 51 bases and recorded 73 RBIs.
Rojas's best moments with the team came in 2023. He made his debut on July 15 of that year, recording a brilliant catch in center field and doubling off the runner at first in his first major league inning.
Later that season, he clinched the Phillies postseason berth with a walk-off single against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Despite many unbelievable catches and hustle base hits, Rojas was sent down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on August 1 of 2025 after the team traded for outfielder Harrison Bader to take over duties in center field.
During the offseason before the 2026 season, Rojas was expected to fight once again for a spot on the 26-man roster.
Rojas only played 10 games during Spring Training before the organization received the news of his suspension on March 16.
Rojas likely would not have made a roster spot with the call up of Phillies top prospect, center fielder Justin Crawford. As well as the signing of right fielder Adolis García. However, his suspension may heavily affect the team in the postseason, as he likely would have made the roster as a defensive replacement and/or a pinch-runner.
He will receive his season-ending surgery within the next couple of weeks. The young outfielder will once again fight for a roster spot in 2027 after months of rehab.
