Packers Urged to Trade Veteran Player Before His Release Date

The Green Bay Packers continue to be a favorite heading into season after season, with powerful quarterback Jordan Love in the fold. But, they have yet to have a real breakout season.

That may change with the right players on offense and defense. Now, the Packers are being encouraged to make a trade before the start of the new season.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report has released a feature where he names one blockbuster trade each franchise should make before the 2026 season starts. “We could get more transactional fireworks this summer, or at least see moves that we expected teams to make, like the Brown deal, before final roster cuts on August 30,” he states.

For the Packers, he wants them to trade cornerback Carrington Valentine before September. Why? Well, in the piece, he notes that Valentine made 11 starts in 17 games for 2025 but “didn’t fare well on the boundary.”

“Valentine allowed seven touchdowns and a 121.2 passer rating in coverage,” Moton says. “Likely concerned about their secondary, the Green Bay Packers added cornerbacks in free agency and the draft.”

He adds: “If Valentine falls back into a reserve role, the Packers could shop the 24-year-old around the league before they make a decision on whether to release him.”

With the Packers having signed Benjamin St-Juste and drafted Brandon Cisse and Domani Jackson in the 2026 NFL draft, there’s really little room for Valentine, and he’s taking up valuable room in an already solid lineup. So, a trade makes sense if the right deal is available.
