Brittney Griner Gets Warm Welcome From Dream Fans in Return to Atlanta

Brittney Griner received a warm reception during her first game back at Gateway Center Arena. The Connecticut Sun visited the Atlanta Dream for a regular-season matchup.

The veteran center suited up in 39 games for the Dream last season. She averaged 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks, which helped the team reach the playoffs with a 30-14 record. However, the team lost in the first round to the Indiana Fever.

Griner signed with the Sun on a one-year deal on April 10.

Atlanta played a tribute video for her on Tuesday. The home crowd cheered for Griner, and many stood up to show their appreciation. She acknowledged the gesture by raising her hand and waving to fans.

Griner finished the game with seven points, four rebounds and three assists. Aneesah Morrow recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds. However, their performance wasn't enough to lead their team to a win.

Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray led the Dream for a combined for 62 points. Angel Reese contributed a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double in the 91-75 victory.

Griner and Co. fell to 2-9 after Tuesday's loss. The Sun currently have the worst record in the entire WNBA.

Connecticut will play two of their next three games on the road. They will face the 3-6 Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena on Friday, followed by a home matchup against the New York Liberty on Monday.

The Sun will be on the road again for a matchup against one of the WNBA expansion teams, the Toronto Tempo, on June 10.
