Wrestling Fans Turn On Mick Foley For 'Hypocritical' Political Opinion
Mick Foley isn't afraid to share his two cents about any given subject, even if it's going to result in him receiving backlash from the public.
Foley let the wrestling universe know that he was done with the WWE this past December. He reached that decision after President Donald Trump posted "cruel and inhumane" comments about the death of legendary movie director Rob Reiner.
"I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy," Foley said. "While I have been concerned about WWE's close relationship with Donald Trump for several months - especially in light of his administration's ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who ‘looks like an immigrant') - reading the President's incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner's death is the final straw for me."
Several months later, Foley spoke to Ariel Helwani about his decision to leave the WWE behind.
"I felt that because I had a Legends deal, and because my name's been associated with WWE for over 30 years, that I was complicit in my silence. I realized that by giving up two really easy, very high-paying jobs during WrestleMania week with WWE, I'd have to work 24 hours on my own to make what I could have made in six, and I'm okay with that," Foley told Helwani. "I made the move that I felt was right for me. I love that company. I'm not going to disparage them. It just didn't seem like a good fit. It didn't seem like a fit that would allow me to look at myself in the mirror before I went to bed."
Some fans made it known on social that they're done supporting Foley due to his political opinion.
"Yet he lives in the USA and pays taxes to the federal government which supports it anyway. Why doesn't he move to Canada?" one fan wrote on X.
"Foley still living in 2016, who's gonna tell him this performative crap doesn't earn you credit anymore," a second person wrote. "Nobody cares about anyones opinion on this stuff."
"You step away and trash the company that made you who you are because Triple H was at the White House with Trump," another fan commented. "I feel bad for Mick Foley fans."
"Happy to collect pay checks from Vince all those years, how come he doesn't share the same views about Vince that he does for Trump," a social media user said. "Oh and the man who bankrolls AEW once upon a time give a $1 million donation to Trump What an absolute hypocrite."
Mick Foley is a true legend.
Foley, who worked under the names of Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love during his incredible WWE career, was best known for his fearless mentality in the ring.
Wrestling fans were treated to a plethora of iconic matches that included Foley. He had epic rivalries with The Rock, Triple H and The Undertaker among other superstars.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Foley was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.
