President Trump Faces Call To Action After Kyle Busch's Death

It's coming up on two weeks since NASCAR legend Kyle Busch passed away due to sepsis brought on by pneumonia. And while President Donald Trump has already offered his condolences and paid tribute to the two-time champion, one group is hoping that he'll take further action to help ensure Busch is the last one to pass in such a way.

According to Us Weekly via Yahoo News, Orlaith and Ciaran Staunton recently wrote a letter to President Trump about their 12-year-old son who passed away due to sepsis back in 2012. The couple said that despite being a leading cause of death in the United States, it does not get the level of "national attention it deserves." The Stauntons called on President Trump to begin raising greater awareness for the condition like they have.

"Rory was just 12 years old when he died from undiagnosed sepsis after what began as a simple cut while playing basketball," the Stauntons wrote. "Despite showing classic warning signs, his condition was not recognized in time. His death was preventable."

"It can strike the young and old, the vulnerable and the strong, ordinary Americans and world-famous athletes alike," they continued. "It moves fast, often hiding in plain sight, and when warning signs are missed or treatment is delayed, the consequences are devastating. And yet, despite being one of the leading causes of death in the United States, sepsis still does not receive the national attention it deserves.

"Congress and federal agencies have begun investing more resources into sepsis surveillance, hospital quality measures, early detection programs, and public health preparedness.

"Those investments are important, but far more leadership is needed if we are to truly confront this crisis."

Call to Action

The couple suggested that he strive for "a major national sepsis awareness and education initiative aimed at hospitals, healthcare workers, parents, schools, sports organizations, and the public."

"That could become one of the defining public health achievements of your presidency," the Stauntons wrote. "Sepsis is a killer hiding in plain sight. But it is also a crisis where education, urgency, and leadership can make the difference between life and death.

"Mr. President, America needs leadership on sepsis now more than ever. This is your opportunity to make a difference for millions of Americans."

There's certainly a lot that President Trump can do with a simple post on social media.
