Ronda Rousey Is Pushing To Make A Movie With Gina Carano
Following her quick victory over Gina Carano, Rondey Rousey hopes they can collaborate again in another capacity.
Rousey returned to the octagon with a 17-second win over Carano in her first MMA fight in a decade. Following the brief Netflix encounter, Rousey wants to make something that could last a bit longer.
Rousey expressed her desire to star in a movie alongside Carano in an interview with On3's Brian Jones.
"I would love to make a martial arts film with Gina," Rousey said. "And I think that the combination of the two of us is something just unique in cinema history, and something that should be taken advantage of. And so I'm on the lookout for projects right now, and hopefully we can find something and do it together."
Will Rousey and Carano return to acting?
It's not a pipe dream, as Rousey and Carano both have plenty of acting experience.
The MMA icons narrowly missed each other in Fast & Furious spots. Carano acted in Fast & Furious 6, and Rousey appeared in Furious 7.
Rousey also appeared in Entourage, The Expendables 3, and Mile 22. Meanwhile, Carano portrayed Cara Dune in The Mandalorian and played a role in Deadpool.
However, Carano and Rousey haven't appeared in a new movie since 2022 and 2019, respectively. Rousey must hope the 17-second fight puts them back into the spotlight for a new opportunity.
Rousey, Carano react to fight
Rousey hadn't competed in an MMA ring since knockout losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes in 2015 and 2016. Yet she still held a distinct advantage over the 44-year-old Carano, who last fought in 2009.
"I was hoping to come out as unscathed as possible," Rousey said after the fight, per ESPN's Brett Okamoto. "I didn't really want to hurt her. It was beautiful martial arts, that's what I think that was. It was art."
Carano said she lost 100 pounds in preparation for her MMA comeback, calling it "the hardest thing I've ever done" in an Instagram post reflecting on the experience. She also shared a heartfelt message to Rousey following the loss.
"I'm so glad the world got to experience this version of Ronda Rousey," Carano wrote. "I found a beautiful woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister and legend. I adore you lady."
