Myles Garrett's Rare Contract Clause Becomes Key to Rams Trade

Myles Garrett's expected move to the Los Angeles Rams comes with a rare contract twist. The Cleveland Browns are reportedly finalizing a blockbuster trade that would send the two-time Defensive Player of the Year to Los Angeles, with Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, and more draft compensation expected to head back to Cleveland.

But the key detail is Garrett's no-trade clause. He has to approve the move, and according to reports, he is waiving that protection for the Rams while keeping the same clause in his new contract. In other words, Garrett is giving Los Angeles the green light without giving up control over his future.

This aspect of Garrett's contract was confirmed by Adam Schefter on X who said, "Myles Garrett is the rare player who had a no-trade clause in his contract. He is waiving it to be traded to Los Angeles, per sources, and he will keep the same clause in his Rams' contract."

The Los Angeles Rams are once again acting like a team that sees a window and wants to smash it open.

This is the type of move that fits their personality perfectly. They have never been afraid to sacrifice future assets if they believe a proven star can push them closer to a championship, and adding Myles Garrett would be one of their boldest swings yet.

For the Cleveland Browns, the decision says a lot about where they are as a franchise. Moving on from a player of Garrett's level is never easy, but the return gives them a chance to reshape things quickly. Jared Verse gives them a younger pass-rush option, while the extra picks give Cleveland more flexibility to rebuild or move around in future drafts.

The Rams, meanwhile, are clearly thinking about right now. Garrett is still viewed as one of the most dominant defensive players in the league, and putting him into their defense immediately changes the way opponents have to prepare.

It is also another reminder of how aggressive NFL teams have become with superstar trades. Players once considered untouchable are now being moved if the price is high enough.

For Los Angeles, this is a championship bet. For Cleveland, it is a massive reset with major upside if the front office gets the next steps right.
