Former IndyCar Driver Rick Treadway Killed In Motorcycle Accident at 56

A former racing star who competed in the Indy 500 has tragically been killed in a motorcycle accident.

Rick Treadway, who started the 2002 Indianapolis 500, died on May 30. He was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Former Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk shared the heartbreaking news.

"Sad news hearing Rick Treadway passed away last Saturday. Our condolences go out to my former @IndyCar team owner Fred Treadway, Janice and Brian Treadway. Rick was a fun, crazy, humble, wild and brave personality ❗️ RIP Ricky ❤️ We are thinking of you Treadway family 🙏," he shared on X.

Longtime racing reporter Bob Pockrass shared the news, as well.

"Sad news: Rick Treadway, who started the 2002 Indianapolis 500, died May 30 in a motorcycle accident. He was 56," he confirmed.

Treadway made a lot of impact in the racing world

Treadway made a lot of impact in the racing world, as he raced professionally in the 2001 and 2002 seasons, making 11 career starts, including the 2002 Indianapolis 500.

He was the son of Fred Treadway, who served as the owner of Treadway Racing, which won the 1997 Indianapolis 500.
