Paige Spiranac Was 'Painfully Embarrassed' To Not Know Common Golf Rule
Paige Spiranac is returning to The Internet Invitational this year.
The popular golf influencer, who has millions of followers across X, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, will be playing in the now-annual golf tournament, which features some of the biggest personalities and creators in the online golf space.
Barstool Sports and Bob Does Sports announced that there will be a $4 million prize pool for this year's tournament. Spiranac is among those expected to play in the event, which generates millions of views on social media.
But Spiranac's inclusion last year sparked controversy.
Spiranac was accused of "cheating" in the final round. She was in the final $1 million match, a three vs. three scramble and alternate shot. Spiranac was caught stomping around in the high grass, helping out one of her teammates' shots.
This is not allowed.
When confronted, Spiranac admitted that she didn't know the rule. She started crying.
Spiranac was 'painfully embarrassed' to not know the rule
Spiranac admitted she didn't know the rule.
"I am painfully, painfully embarrassed that I did not know this rule," Spiranac said in an Instagram story at the time. "I would never intentionally cheat. In all my years of playing golf, I have never been accused of cheating. There were so many cameras on me. To blatantly cheat with that many people around, that many cameras around, would be insane. So, I made a mistake. I learned now that it was a rules infraction, and I'll never do it again."
Earlier in the round, she confronted one of her opponents, Francis Ellis, about not knowing a different rule. Spiranac had said that anyone who played competitive golf should know the rules.
Of course, that came back to bite her in a big way, as Spiranac was roasted for not knowing another common rule.
