FIFA Makes AT&T Stadium Decision Jerry Jones Has Long Avoided

FIFA is making a practical change at AT&T Stadium that Cowboys fans have been asking about for years. With the World Cup set to bring afternoon games to the Dallas venue, organizers reportedly plan to use blackout curtains to block the sun and reduce glare for players.

That is notable because Jerry Jones has long resisted using them for Cowboys games, even with several moments where sunlight clearly affected players on the field. For FIFA, though, the priority seems simple: make sure the conditions are as fair and playable as possible.

The news was confirmed on X by Yahoo sports saying, "FIFA will use blackout curtains at AT&T Stadium to block the sun for one World Cup game, per Front Office Sports. Jerry Jones has refused to use them for Cowboys games despite several examples of players being blinded by the glare during plays."

FIFA Fixes an Issue Jerry Jones Didn't Believe In

AT&T Stadium's sun problem has always felt like one of those issues everyone can see, but the Cowboys refuse to seriously change.

For years, players have complained about losing the ball in the glare during late-afternoon games. It has happened in big moments, and the calls for curtains have only grown louder. Still, Jerry Jones has mostly brushed it off, arguing that the conditions are part of the stadium and that both teams have to deal with them. FIFA is clearly not taking that same stance.

With World Cup matches coming to the venue, organizers are choosing the safer and simpler route by using curtains for at least one afternoon game. The idea is pretty basic: remove the glare, protect the quality of play, and avoid having a major international match affected by something that can be fixed.

That is what makes the decision stand out. The stadium already has the ability to use curtains, and they have been used for other major events before. They just have not become part of Cowboys game days.

For the World Cup, though, FIFA does not seem interested in turning sunlight into a storyline. The priority is making sure players can actually see the ball.
