First-Ever NFL Game in France Revealed Ahead of Full Schedule Release

The full NFL schedule will officially be unveiled Thursday night, but several matchups have already been revealed in increments throughout the week.

On Wednesday morning, the league announced its official nine-game international slate, which will feature contests in Australia (for the first time ever), Brazil, London (three games), Spain, Germany, and France - another first for the NFL.

The Week 1 matchup in Melbourne will feature the Los Angeles Rams taking on the San Francisco 49ers. The game will be played Sept. 10 in the United States, but Sept. 11 locally in Australia because of the significant time difference.

Meanwhile, the historic first NFL game in Paris is scheduled for Week 7 and will feature the Pittsburgh Steelers against the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 25.

Art Rooney II spoke about the honor of the Steelers being selected to play in the NFL's first-ever game in France during the team's press release announcing the news.

"We’re honored to represent the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL in the League’s first-ever game in Paris this upcoming season," said Art Rooney II. "Playing the New Orleans Saints in such a historic setting is a great opportunity to showcase the NFL’s global growth and to connect with fans around the world. It’s an exciting moment for our organization and for Steelers Nation everywhere."

Gayle Benson echoed a similar sentiment to Art Rooney II, calling it a "privilege" for the New Orleans Saints to have the opportunity to make history in Paris while also highlighting Louisiana's deep-rooted connection to France.

"It is a privilege for the New Orleans Saints to take part in the NFL’s first regular-season game in France," Benson said. "Louisiana’s relationship with France is centuries deep, and this game represents another meaningful step in strengthening those cultural and economic ties."
