Brian Windhorst Warns Victor Wembanyama After First NBA Ejection

Victor Wembanyama was quite frustrated after the first ever ejection of his NBA career. The San Antonio Spurs tried their best to battle the Minnesota Timberwolves without their biggest star, but the trouble for Wemby may still not be over.

The Spurs had the chance to extend their lead to 3-1 in Minneapolis. However, Wembanyama's ejection changed the course of the game. Following the controversial incident, ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst had a message for the French star.

"I do think there's a chance he'll get a fine", Windhorst said on Get Up. "This was a very immature act by a player who took himself out of the game… absolutely unacceptable to do this in a playoff game". Despite it being his first career ejection, Wembanyama was heavily scrutinized by the analyst for his actions.

Windhorst further added, "Also to act like he didn't know what the results were on the bench, Victor is one of the smartest young players. He knew exactly what he had done. He knows exactly what happens on a flagrant 2". The controversial incident took place early in the second quarter.

The 7-foot-4 star grabbed the rebound after a missed Spurs three-pointer. While turning to protect the ball, Wemby appeared to elbow Timberwolves forward Naz Reid. The officials initially called a common foul before upgrading it to a flagrant 2 for excessive contact. This resulted in an automatic ejection for the Spurs star.

The penalty already carries a minimum $2,000 fine, but Windhorst suggested the league office could still review the incident further. The ejection was evidently costly for the Spurs, who lost the game 114-109. Wembanyama played only 12 minutes and finished with four points before his exit.

Despite the shortened outing, the 22-year-old still remains the Spurs' leading scorer in the second-round series with 73 points. Only Anthony Edwardshas scored more than him in the series, with 98 points through four games. Now, with the series tied 2-2, the pressure shifts heavily onto the Spurs heading into Game 5.

After a tough game away from home, Wembanyama and his team will look to bounce back in San Antonio. But as Windhorst suggests, the tension around his possible punishment could disrupt the focus for the MVP finalist.
