New York Jets Insider Shoots Down Breece Hall Rumor
The New York Jets have made it clear they want to keep star running back Breece Hall around.
The team turned down trade interest back in November around the NFL trade deadline - most notably from the Kansas City Chiefs. And once the season ended, they slapped the franchise tag on Hall, locking him in for at least one more year at a $14.293 million salary.
It's been speculated that the Jets offered Hall a $60 million contract this offseason, but noted team insider Connor Hughes of SNY debunked the claims on Tuesday morning.
"Looked into the report the #Jets offered Breece Hall a four-year, $60m extension," Hughes reported. "Sources on both ends of the negotiation insist that was never on the table. Hall & the Jets would like to get something done. I'd expect them to re-engage soon to try to find common ground. That specific deal, though, was not presented, they say."
If he plays on the franchise tag in 2026, Hall would be the fifth-highest paid RB in the league. Most expect his new deal to fall in between the $15 million per year Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry makes and the $19 million per year San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey earns.
The rumored $60 million extension is close to Hall's market value, which sits around $15.4 million per season, according to Spotrac, which predicts Hall will ultimately sign a four-year, $61.62 million deal before next season.
The 24-year-old tailback is coming off the best season of his career. He rushed for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns (his first 1,000-yard season) while adding 36 catches, 350 yards and another score though the air.
According to general manager Darren Mougey, the Jets do anticipate resolving Hall's contract situation at some point between now and training camp.
"I got a list of things we have to turn the page from on the draft and address next week," Mougey said after the draft. "I've got a list of things to get to next week, [Hall] being one of them. I want to have discussions internally, have discussions with Breece's party before saying much more. I anticipate kind of turning my attention to Breece and that contract situation. We'll address it internally and see where it goes."
