Terrence Shannon Jr. Sends Clear Warning to Victor Wembanyama

The Minnesota Timberwolves went on the road and notched a Game 1 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, securing a 104-102 final score at the Frost Bank Center.

Spurs center Victor Wembanyama set the new all-time, single-game playoff block record, rejecting 12 shots in the Game 1 loss. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman finished the game with a triple-double, but it wasn’t enough to take down the undeterred Timberwolves.

Two of Wembanyama’s blocks came against Terrence Shannon Jr. in the opening moments of the first quarter. However, Minnesota’s second-year guard didn’t take that to heart.

After the game, Shannon said he’s going to continue to attack Wembanyama at the rim.

"He’s gonna have to block it every time. I ain't gonna stop going downhill. I told him that when he said a little something after he blocked my second one,” Shannon said. “He gonna have to block it every time, man. I know he ain't gonna block it every single time. I'm gonna dunk on him.”

Shannon has been excellent for the Timberwolves throughout their playoff run thus far. He finished Monday night’s win with 16 points, and his relentless attack of the basket resulted in a game-high eight free-throw attempts.

Timberwolves guard Jaden McDaniels shared a similar perspective on Wembanyama’s defensive impact.

“You just got to act like he’s not there,” McDaniels said. “He’s going to get blocks. He’s the tallest person in the world. Just keep consistently attacking. Sometimes, he’s not going to be there.”
