Celtics Confirm Jayson Tatum's Status With Game 7 Injury Report
The Boston Celtics suffered a concerning injury scare during Thursday night’s Game 6 matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Superstar forward Jayson Tatum exited the game and went back into the Celtics’ locker room during the second half. He did not return to the court in the fourth quarter, with the team citing left calf discomfort.
Tatum suffered a season-ending Achilles tear on his right leg during last year’s playoffs.
The Celtics lost their second consecutive games with a 106-93 final score, forcing a Game 7 back at Boston’s TD Garden. Tatum downplayed the issue after the game, saying the game was already out of reach by the time he returned to the bench in the fourth quarter.
"You guys probably saw when I went to the back, saw me on the [stationary] bike, my leg just was a little stiff when I came out [in the] third quarter,” Tatum said after the game. “But just kind of assessing the moment, the game was a little out of reach, we took the starters out and let the bench guys go in.”
Tatum is fully expected to take the court for Game 7. And on Friday evening, the Celtics confirmed that expectation with their injury report.
“Injury Report for Game 7 vs. PHI: No injuries to report,” the team wrote on social media.
Tatum and the Celtics held a 3-1 lead over the 76ers heading into Game 5, but Philadelphia has since notched back-to-back victories in potential closeout games. Tyrese Maxey led the way for his team in Game 6, recording a game-high 30 points in the win.
Despite missing the entire fourth quarter, Tatum finished the game as the Celtics’ leading scorer with 17 points.
Game 7 will tipoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
