Atlanta Makes Angel Reese Contract Decision Weeks After Blockbuster Trade
The Chicago Sky traded two-time All-Star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream on April 6, and Reese called it a “breath of fresh air” during an introductory press conference held eleven days later.
Reese opened up about having a general manager in Atlanta, Dan Padover, who “really wanted me,” and joining “an organization that really cares about their players.”
“It lowkey makes me emotional because I haven't had this, and I'm really grateful,” Reese said.
The Dream showed just how much they want to keep Reese in Atlanta on Monday.
The Dream PR announced Atlanta’s decision to pick up Reese’s fourth-year option on her rookie contract, which puts Reese under team control through the 2027 season.
Chicago drafted Reese seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The former LSU star has led the WNBA in rebounding in each of her first two seasons and was named All-Rookie in 2024. The Sky, however, finished 13-27 in 2024 and were tied with Dallas for the worst record in the league at 10-34 in 2025.
Reese immediately entered contender status by joining the Dream. While the Dream have failed to advance past the first round of the playoffs for three straight years, they have a core talented enough to reach the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013. Atlanta’s 30-14 record last season is the best in franchise history.
Along with trading for Reese, Atlanta re-signed Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Brionna Jones, Jordin Canada, and Naz Hillmon this offseason.
The Dream will tip off their 2026 campaign against the Minnesota Lynx on May 10. See the team’s full broadcast schedule, including 28 nationally televised games, here.
