Indiana Fever Veteran Makes Announcement After Issue Outside the U.S.
The Indiana Fever made easy work of the New York Liberty on Friday in their first preseason game. The Fever were on the road but still cruised to a dominant 109-91 victory at Barclays Center.
This is despite Indiana being missing some key players in the game. Aliyah Boston and Lexie Hull sat out with minor injuries. Offseason recruit Tyasha Harris was also sidelined.
Another player who did not take the floor for the Fever is center Damiris Dantas. In fact, the 33-year-old veteran was not with the team for the game. At that point, Dantas had not yet been able to return to the United States.
Much like other players across the league, Dantas spent her offseason abroad playing for a different team. The 6-foot-4 center-forward suited up for Botas SK in Turkey's Women's Basketball Super League.
Dantas, however, was unable to attend Indiana's training camp, which began on April 19. She reportedly had issues securing her U.S. visa while abroad.
The good news is that Dantas has finally returned to Indianapolis. She took to social media on Sunday to announce her return, posting a photo of the Fever facility with a home emoji.

Dantas entered free agency in the offseason. The Fever's front office did not want her to leave, though, so they made sure to re-sign her to a new deal. Dantas put pen to paper on a two-year contract worth $610,000.
Dantas has been with the Fever for two seasons. Last year, she played 38 games, averaging 4.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 11.6 minutes off the bench.
Dantas is expected to reprise her role as a backup big for head coach Stephanie White's rotation. She will play alongside the likes of Boston, Myisha Hines-Allen, Monique Billings and Makayla Timpson in the frontcourt.
