Orioles Announce Injury News Before Red Sox Series

The Baltimore Orioles entered the 2026 season with high expectations. The ball club has played a mediocre brand of baseball to begin the new campaign, however. At 12-13, the O's are in third place in the American League East standings. The team announced injury news ahead of their upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox, via Jacob Calvin Meyer.

"Another injury for the Orioles: Dean Kremer goes on the 15-day IL with a right quad strain, retroactive to April 20. Brandon Young is called up to start Friday against the Red Sox. Young has been impressive, allowing only 2 runs in 21.2 IP between Triple-A and majors," Calvin Meyer reported.

Kremer surprisingly began the season in the minor leagues. The 30-year-old was later promoted to the big leagues once again, where he pitched to a 4.09 ERA in two starts. Now, the right-handed hurler is headed to the injured list.

It remains to be seen how much time Kremer will end up missing with the injury. Baltimore will miss his presence in the rotation. He is not a star, but Kremer has been fairly reliable in recent years. In 2025, he turned in a 4.19 ERA in 31 total outings.

Updates on Kremer's injury status will be provided as they are made available.

Orioles' Starting Pitching Outlook After Dean Kremer Injury

The Orioles will need their starting pitching to perform well in order to seriously compete this year. The starting pitching does have some questions, especially with Kremer now injured.

Pitchers such as Chris Bassitt and Shane Baz have struggled to begin the season. Baz and Bassitt were added during the offseason to help matters, but they both currently have ERAs above 5.00.

Trevor Rogers has been alright, but he does not look like the same pitcher who was dominant last year. Kyle Bradish has also been fine.

Baltimore is going to need more from the pitching rotation. Perhaps they will look to acquire a starter or two ahead of the deadline in early August. In order to even be in a position to buy, though, the Orioles will need to play a more consistent brand of baseball over the next few months.

The offense has talent, but the pitching needs to step up. As for the Orioles' upcoming series against the Red Sox, the first game will be played on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST.
