Yankees Players Facing Immediate Blowback For Uniform Change Suggestion
The New York Yankees have some of the most iconic uniforms in all of sports.
New York rocks a classic pinstripe uniform at home and a classic gray uniform on the road. They wear the same navy "NY" hat, home and away.
But some Yankees players are pushing for a change.
A group of veteran New York Yankees players are pushing the team to let them wear an alternate, blue uniform.
Yankees players are pushing higher-ups to let them wear the navy blue batting practice jerseys on the road.
"New York Yankees players recently pitched higher-ups on the team wearing alternate jerseys for the first time in franchise history, a league source briefed on the conversations told The Athletic," the report states.
"Players suggested the team during occasional road games wear its navy batting practice jerseys, which feature "New York" across the chest in gray letters and numbers with white trim and the Starr Insurance sleeve patch. The players did not propose any changes to the home uniforms or to the regular road jerseys. The Yankees have only two official jerseys: white with blue pinstripes at home and gray on the road."
Not everyone is loving the idea, though
Yankees players are facing blowback online, with some suggesting that it's going against tradition.
"Somewhere there is like a 17 year old Yankee fan who thinks this is awesome and I completely blame their parents for that," one wrote.
"Curious if this goes better than when they switched from polyester to cotton back in 94," one fan joked, referencing Seinfeld.
"Loud music and new uniforms?? Why do these Yankees want to turn me into the "get off my lawn" old man?" one fan added.
"Don't like this.... at all don't like the beard policy... don't like the patches on the jerseys... But this all doesn't matter The ONLY thing that matters is the Yankees have 1 ring in 25 years. Unacceptable," one fan added.
Should the Yankees get a new uniform?
