Massive 'Bidding War' Emerging For Warriors Coach Steve Kerr
Steve Kerr's time as the Golden State Warriors head coach could be coming to an end.
The longtime NBA head coach, who has led the Warriors to four NBA championships, is considering stepping away.
NBC Sports reported this week that, barring a surprise, Kerr is not expected to return in 2026-27.
"Kerr arrived at training camp mentally prepared for the 2025-26 NBA season to close his 12-year tenure as head coach of the Warriors. Whispers heard around the NBA last summer were reinforced when Kerr quickly and firmly dismissed the idea of extending his contract," they reported.
Kerr entered the season with just one year left on his contract.
"I'm very comfortable just going into this season with a year left," Kerr said last September. "I'm so aligned with (general manager Mike Dunleavy) and (CEO Joe Lacob). There's no reason for discussion or concern. This is kind of a point in our relationship where it's like, let's just see how it is at the end of the year."
If Kerr were to leave the Warriors, he's not expected to be out of work for very long.
While Kerr is expected to retire from coaching, he's expected to stay around the game from a media perspective.
'Bidding war' emerging for Kerr's services
According to a report from Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, Kerr is expected to be recruited by ESPN, NBC and Amazon.
A massive "bidding war" is set to get underway.
Kerr will likely end up with a prominent TV role in 2026-27.
