Chelsea Sack Liam Rosenior - Who Will Replace Him Next For the Rest of the Season?

Following Chelsea's 3-0 loss to Brighton in the Premier League yesterday, Chelsea has announced that they have parted ways with English manager Liam Rosenior.

The English head coach joined the club on January 6, 2026, but his tenure has fallen short after five consecutive Premier League losses, which have dropped them down to 7th in the league table.

Chelsea's statement read, "On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club...This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future."

Chelsea will not appoint a new permanent head coach for the rest of the season and has decided to hire an interim manager.

This is now two managers Chelsea has decided to part ways with, as Enzo Maresca, who started the season with the team, left the club on January 1, 2026.

Chelsea only has five games left this season, including an FA Cup semifinal match against Leeds United this weekend.

Chelsea Announce Calum McFarlane as Interim Manager

Chelsea has confirmed that Calum McFarlane has been appointed as the interim manager of the first team for the rest of the season.

This is the second time this season that McFarlane has been appointed as interim manager. McFarlane took the interim job back in January following Enzo Maresca's departure.

McFarlane only coached two games for Chelsea before Liam Rosenior took control of the team. McFarlane led Chelsea to a 1-1 draw with Manchester City and a 2-1 loss to Fulham in the Premier League earlier this year.

Chelsea's statement reads, "Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing Club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup. As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment."
