Caitlin Clark Wants Other Fever Guards To Bring Up The Ball This Season

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is hoping to tweak her role on offense this upcoming season.

Clark, a two-time All-Star, has been tremendous for the Fever when she's healthy, averaging 18.5 points, 8.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game. Not only has she showcased her range from the 3-point line, she's proven to be a tremendous playmaker in transition.

While there's no question Clark thrives with the ball in her hands, she wants the Fever to have another reliable ball handler. She made that abundantly clear during Indiana's media day.

"It is exhausting bringing the ball up the floor 94 feet versus pressure every single time, so we certainly need to find someone who can handle the ball," Clark told reporters. "I think Raven and Tyasha [Harris], even other people through camp, have done a great job."

If the Fever are able to get Clark off the ball more often this year, that could free up opportunities for her to get open on offense.

Caitlin might lean on a former college rival.

As Clark previously mentioned, the Fever have some options at guard now with Raven Johnson and Tyasha Harris.

Johnson, the No. 10 overall pick from this year's draft, squared off against Clark during the 2023 and 2024 NCAA tournaments. She averaged 9.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game during her final season at South Carolina.

"You're talking about a team that could possibly win the championship," Johnson said when asked about joining the Fever. "I think it's crazy. They have a lot of vets I could learn from and they're winners. Everybody on that team likes to win. I think that's what makes that team special. So to go to a program like that, that has the same mentality as me of winning is phenomenal."

Who knows? Maybe the duo of Clark and Johnson will thrive together in the backcourt.
