Victor Wembanyama Leaves Spurs Game 2 With Concussion After Hard Fall
The San Antonio Spurs had a tough battle on their hands at home in Game 2 of their playoff series, with the Portland Trail Blazers jumping to an early double-digit lead on the hosts.
It became even tougher for the Spurs when they lost their superstar, big man Victor Wembanyama, for the remainder of the game due to injury. Wembanyama’s head hit the basketball court hard while driving, with the Spurs center slipping before passing the ball.
He remained lying on the court after the rough impact with teammates coming over to check on his condition. Eventually, Wembanyama sat up but still held his head and put a hand over his face, reacting to the rough impact he had just had.
As a result, he had to exit the game, and NBC’s commentators later revealed that he was out for the rest of the matchup due to concussion protocol.

Wembanyama’s devastating injury occurred with 8:57 left in the second quarter. Before his exit, he recorded five points and four rebounds for San Antonio.
Without him, his team continued to fight against Portland, with the teams trading the lead in the third quarter. The Spurs extended to an eight-point lead by the fourth quarter, with Stephon Castle’s 16 points and eight rebounds leading the way.
The NBA on NBC and Peacock uploaded a video showing the moment Wemby suffered his concussion during the Spurs-Blazers playoff game.
Before the game began, the NBA honored the Spurs’ superstar by awarding him the NBA Defensive Player of the Year trophy, which he won yesterday. Wemby was the first-ever unanimous winner in the voting and, at 22, the youngest player in league history to win the award.
Losing him for more than a game could definitely put the Spurs’ first-round series in jeopardy, as the Portland Trail Blazers have shown themselves to be a pesky team capable of battling with the best in the NBA.
Game 3 also occurs in Portland, where the home fans are likely to be highly supportive of their team in its first playoff appearance in nearly five years.
