Cause Of Death For Angels Legend Garret Anderson Has Been Announced
The MLB community has received an update on the death of former Los Angeles Angels outfielder Garret Anderson.
Anderson, 53, passed away last Thursday after suffering a medical emergency at his Newport Beach home, according to TMZ. He had an incredible run with the Angels from 1994-2008, which included winning a World Series title in 2002. Overall, he finished his career with a .293 average, 287 homers and 1,365 RBI.
"The Angels organization is mourning the loss of one of our franchise's most beloved icons, Garret Anderson," Angels owner Arte Moreno said. "Garret was a cornerstone of our organization throughout his 15 seasons and his stoic presence in the outfield and our clubhouse elevated the Angels into an era of continued success, highlighted by the 2002 World Series championship."
Anderson's wife, Teresa, told ESPN that he passed away from a heart attack. A spokesperson for Orange County Sheriff Coroner's Office, however, said the All-Star slugger died due to acute necrotizing pancreatitis.

The Angels will honor Anderson for the rest of the season by wearing a "GA" memorial patch.
"When I first got drafted, he was the guy," Angels legend Mike Trout said. "He meant a lot to this organization. ... I don't think I've ever heard anything bad said about him. It's just a tough, tough loss."
Former Angels outfielder Tim Salmon added, "Integrity, character, humble, great friend. I'll let the field stuff speak for itself. But to me, I feel like his biggest legacy was who he was as a man."
Our thoughts remain with Anderson's loved ones.
