Caitlin Clark Offers Strong Reaction to Spurs' Victor Wembanyama
San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama made his NBA playoff debut on Sunday night, taking down the Portland Trail Blazers with a 111-98 final score at home.
Wembanyama’s postseason debut got off to a red-hot start. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman score 21 points in the first half, shooting 8/13 from the field. He was held scoreless in the third quarter, but finished strong with 14 points in the final period.
Wembanyama finished the game with 35 points, shooting 13/21 from the field and 5/6 from behind the 3-point arc. He also chipped in with five rebounds, two blocks and one assist as the Spurs began their championship-hopeful run with a Game 1 win.
Wembanyama’s 35 points in a playoff debut mark the most in Spurs franchise history, passing the previous mark of 32 set by all-time great big man Tim Duncan.
Wembanyama’s postseason debut featured several jaw-dropping plays, drawing the attention of fans from around the basketball world.
Even Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark took to social media to react to Wembanyama’s stellar performance.
“Wemby is ridiculous,” the WNBA All-Star wrote.
Wembanyama addressed his introduction to the NBA playoff atmosphere after Sunday night’s win.
“The first time I stepped on the court, even for warmups, I felt the atmosphere was different,” Wembanyama said. “Everybody was ready. The fans were ready. It’s probably the most excitement I’ve seen this year in this arena. In terms of tactics, the sport aspect of it, it was different because we had more time to prepare.”
The Spurs will look to continue their positive momentum from Game 1 into Game 2 against the visiting Trail Blazers. Game 2 will tipoff at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
