President Trump's Official Golf Handicap Sparks Major Debate

President Trump loves to golf. There's a lot that can be said about his time leading the United States of America. However, one thing is very much not up for debate: his love of golf.

The President of the United States, who served from 2017-20 and again starting in January 2025, has played dozens of rounds since taking office.

"He just loves the game of golf," said Scottie Scheffler at his Ryder Cup press conference last year. "And he's one of those guys when you're around him, he does such a good job of, like, feeding confidence into everybody around him.

"That was one of the things I noticed a lot with the little bit of time I spent with him, is he treats everybody the same and treats people with the utmost respect. Whether you're the person serving us lunch or the caddie on the golf course or the guy who's the president of the club that we're at, he treats everybody like they're the greatest person in the world.

"I don't think he has any plans to address us as a team, but I'm sure if things go well, we'll hear from him this week."

But how good is he, really?

President Trump's official golf handicap is 2.8 in the Golf Handicap Information Network. That 2.8 handicap is the lowest handicap of any U.S. president in history. It means that President Trump typically shoots in the 70s or low 80s.

He's been playing for decades.

"I played golf with my friends, and then I started to play with the hustlers. And I learned a lot. I learned about golf, I learned about gambling. I learned about everything," Trump told Golf Digest.

But is he really a 2.8?

President Trump's official handicap sparks major debate

Golf fans are debating.

"I wouldnt be surprised if at one point he was at a 3. But at his age, I highly doubt it," one wrote.

"I am not sure if he is a true 3, probably more like a 5-6 but it really is not that hard to believe. His USGA record is public info, his last round on 6/16 he shot a 77. Depending on the course rating that is definitely a single digit handicap score and a lower one at that. The problem that most people have is they have no idea what single digit handicap golfers look like. I play on an amateur tour and in the Champ flight which is under 5 handicap players there is a lot of weird swings and people you would never guess where such low handicaps,' one added.

"He makes some good swings but i dont think anyone has vouched for his vanity cap. Pretty much everyone who plays with him says he throws ball down in bounds, picks up and takes gimmes from 10ft, doesn't putt out, etc.," one fan added.

"Half of his scores posted toward his handicap are like 5 years old. So unless the billionaire golf enthusiast only plays golf 4 times/year (note, he's played 4 times since becoming president 2 weeks ago), his handicap is very loosely maintained," one fan added.

What do you make of his handicap?
