Victor Wembanyama Will Love This Spurs Prediction
Victor Wembanyama is back after his rib injury and ready to rock the 2026 NBA playoffs. The San Antonio Spurs are set to open their series against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday, April 19, and the Spurs are heavy favorites to win.
But, forget about the opening series. One NBA analyst has Wembanyama and the Spurs going all the way.
In a Tuesday, April 14 story for ESPN, Zach Kram lays out his predictions for the 2026 NBA playoffs. He doesn’t just do the first round, either. He goes through the entire run of games.
Kram has the Spurs up against the Boston Celtics in the final game. In the end, he goes with San Antonio taking it all in six games.
“The Celtics and Spurs have never faced off in the Finals, and both franchises have remarkable success in this climactic round: Boston is 18-5 in the Finals, while San Antonio is 5-1,” he states in the feature. “Something has to give in this unexpected showdown.”
At the end of the finals, he believes the Spurs “will make enough open 3s to exploit Boston’s defensive game plan and complete a storybook journey, from out of the playoffs to raising the trophy in a year.” He even goes so far to say, “Wembanyama joins fellow Spurs Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard as Finals MVPs in their age-22 seasons. And the NBA’s Wemby Era officially begins.”

The Wemby era has actually already started, in my opinion. In just three seasons, he’s been crowned a two-time NBA All-Star and was the 2024 Rookie of the Year. He’s also proven to be a versatile star on the court, as a 7-foot-4 center who can also cover as a guard.

So, the Wemby era is here, but if the Spurs go all the way and win this thing, there’s a case to be made that Wembanyama is on track to be the next LeBron James of the NBA.
