Dolphins Reveal Troy Aikman's Role in NFL Draft Process

Earlier this year, the Miami Dolphins brought in former NFL quarterback Troy Aikman as a consultant in the team’s search for a new general manager.

That GM search ultimately ended with the Dolphins hiring Jon-Eric Sullivan, who kept Aikman on as a consultant for the team’s head coaching search that landed Jeff Hafley.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Sullivan said Aikman is welcome to join the front office in the draft room as the team makes its selections in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.

That said, Sullivan definitively stated that Aikman will not be consulted on the Dolphins’ picks.

"I can't say enough good things about Troy,” Sullivan said when asked about Aikman’s role in the upcoming draft. “Troy's been a wonderful sounding board in his own right from afar. Troy will be part of equation moving forward. What that looks like, we'll see. But he's been a great sounding board, and I'm glad he's going to be part of the equation.

"I know he'll be here. He's certainly welcome in the draft room."

Earlier this month, Aikman opened up about his undefined role with the Dolphins in an exclusive interview with Clarence Hill.

“I’ll continue to help in ways that are yet to be defined,” Aikman said.

“I think the Dolphins were wise in understanding my relationships around the league,” the Monday Night Football analyst added. “And knowing that I have information that they don’t have or can’t get. And I think they were smart in taking advantage of that - whether it was through me or through somebody else.”
