LIV Golf Rumors Appear To Be Bad News For President Trump
With LIV Golf reportedly on the cusp of shutting down for good, fans are waiting from a statement from President Donald Trump.
Roughly 48 hours ago, Ryan French said a "bombshell announcement" was coming about LIV Golf. Well, it was reported Wednesday that LIV Golf is on the verge of losing funding from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. If that happens, that would put the tour's future in doubt.
"Sources indicate LIV is preparing to wind down operations as the Public Investment Fund (PIF) reassesses its broader strategy amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East. A recent board meeting in New York focused on the league's near-term future, including whether to cease operations following this week's event in Mexico City or continue through the end of the season," Trey Wingo said. "Importantly, this is not a reflection of LIV's commercial performance. The league was fully funded through 2030 - this is a top-down strategic shift driven by evolving geopolitical priorities. MBS pulled the plug."
Former ESPN star Pablo Torre pointed out a LIV tournament is scheduled for Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. As of now, it's set to take place from August 6-9.
"Trump's war with Iran leading to the financial collapse of LIV Golf - months before Trump could host this year's LIV event at his own course in Bedminster - might be the thing that convinces him that this war was, uh, a bad idea," Torre said.
Will the PGA Tour merge forces with LIV Golf?
Trump's golf courses have hosted several LIV events over the past few years. That being said, he has advocated for a merger with the PGA Tour.
"Ultimately, hopefully, the two tours are going to merge. That'll be good. I'm involved in that, too," Trump said in April 2025. "But hopefully we're going to get the two tours to merge. You have the PGA Tour and the LIV Tour. And I think having them merge would be a great thing."
While a merger appears to be out of the question, we might see Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and a few other stars return to the PGA Tour.
