Report: Several Teams In NFL Draft Top 10 Pursuing Trades

If you're hoping there's chaos during the opening round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the latest report from Jordan Schultz might have you feeling conflicted.

Schultz reported Tuesday that several teams inside the top 10 are interested in trading down either before or during the opening round of the draft next Thursday. However, there haven't been any deals yet since teams want to preserve their assets for the 2027 NFL Draft.

"There are several teams in the top 10 interested in trading down, but the issue they've run into, and believe will persist, is a lack of interest from teams in moving high 2027 picks, per sources," Schultz said. "Things will intensify next week, but that element could make trades more difficult than usual."

The 2027 draft is expected to feature Charlie Becker, Arch Manning, Dante Moore, Julian Sayin, Jeremiah Smith and countless other potential-packed players. We totally get why teams want to avoid parting ways with future picks.

On the flip side, there's no guarantee the 2027 draft class will reach its full potential. For that reason alone, we expect a few deals to go down over the next 10 days.

Keep an eye on the Dallas Cowboys.

Schultz also reported that Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys could trade up on Day 1 of the draft.

According to ESPN's Jordan Reid, the Cowboys have shown interest in Miami pass rusher Rueben Bain Jr. and Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. Both prospects earned Defensive Player of the Year in their respective conferences during the 2025 season.

"Trading up continues to be a possibility, especially if there's a player they have high on their board who backslides a tad," Reid wrote. "Safety Caleb Downs (Ohio State) and edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. (Miami) are believed to be players whom the Cowboys would maneuver for, as Dallas reportedly sees both as instant-impact game changers on defense."

With the NFL Draft just nine days away, it won't be long before a trade finally gets finalized. We're just not sure how much madness there'll be during the first round.
