Brewers Make Christian Yelich Decision After Suffering Injury

The Milwaukee Brewers entered the 2026 MLB season hoping to win the National League Central.

A year ago, the Brewers finished as the No. 1 seed in the National League, but they got swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.

Through the first 15 games, Milwaukee has an 8-7 record, so it has been an up-and-down start.

Entering Tuesday's series against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Brewers are riding an unfortunate five-game losing streak, including three straight losses in Milwaukee against the Washington Nationals.

To make things worse, slugger Christian Yelich left Sunday's game early with an injury, and the Brewers officially placed him on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy gave the update on the radio.

The injury came during an at-bat and Yelich went for imaging, and now he is out for some time due to the groin strain.

Yelich has gotten off to a strong start, hitting .314 with one home run, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored, so this is a tough loss early on for Milwaukee.

Who Will Replace Yelich?

Yelich has been the primary designated hitter for Milwaukee.

After leaving Sunday's game, veteran catcher Gary Sanchez replaced Yelich in the lineup, and he hit a game-tying three-run home run in the 7th, although the Nationals went on to win the game, 8-6.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy also said that Yelich will be out a while, so it sure sounds like a bit of a lengthy absence for the slugger.

With William Contreras as the primary catcher, Sanchez should be the option to fill Yelich's spot, at least for now.

But, if Yelich does miss an extended period of time, the Brewers could add a veteran in free agency or give some other guys in Triple-A a look to see what they have in store.

Right now, the Brewers are in the midst of a frustrating losing streak, and now having to battle without Yelich for the foreseeable future is a gut-punch.

The Brewers face the Blue Jays in Milwaukee for three games before kicking off a six-game road trip against the Miami Marlins and Detroit Tigers.
