Miro Heiskanen Injury Update Emerges Before Stars-Sabres Game
The Dallas Stars continue preparing for the postseason after securing the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and currently having the third-best record across the NHL.
With only one game remaining before the start of the playoffs on Saturday, attention has shifted toward the availability of key players and how the Stars manage the multiple absences currently impacting their lineup.
Heading into Monday's win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Stars had already ruled out two of their key players in defenseman Miro Heiskanen and forward Roope Hintz, both of whom are expected to miss the remainder of the regular season, with no firm timeline for their return.
"We'll get a better read here," general manager Jim Nill said on Saturday. "We're kind of just going week by week with him and seeing where he's at."
Head coach Glen Gulutzan, meanwhile, acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Heiskanen's injury earlier in the week.
"I honestly don't know," Gulutzan said. "But anytime there's an injury, especially to your top guys, it's concerning."
However, a more recent update emerged on Monday evening and shifted the postseason outlook for both players.
According to Robert Tiffin of D Magazine, citing fellow NHL reporter Frank Seravalli, Heiskanen and Hintz are now considered questionable for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which is more promising than not having a timeline at all for their potential return.

"(Frank) Seravalli said during the first intermission just now that Sam Steel is traveling with the team, and is a possibility to play on Wednesday in Buffalo," Tiffin reported, while sharing a pic with the Stars' injury report labeling both Heiskanen and Hintz as questionable for the playoffs opener.
Heiskanen is coming off a 63-point season (nine goals, 54 assists) in 77 games, while Hintz has put up 44 points (15 goals, 29 assists) in 53 games this season.
The Stars close the season on Wednesday with a road game against the Buffalo Sabres scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
