Steelers star T.J. Watt hospitalized before Monday’s game against Dolphins
Pittsburgh Steelers star pass rusher T.J. Watt was hospitalized Dec. 11 for further medical evaluation of his lungs after experiencing discomfort at the team’s facility on Thursday.
The lung injury occurred during Wednesday’s practice, he has been hospitalized since then. The injury puts his availability at risk for Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
In 2022, Watt’s brother J.J. Watt revealed he suffered atrial fibrillation — an irregular and rapid heartbeat — in the middle of a game week and still played that Sunday. If that’s taking place, his playing status for the rest of the season could be at risk.
Watt, who has started 134 regular-season games for the Steelers and produced 115 sacks in his nine seasons, is the standout pass rusher the Steelers defense is built around.
This season he has contributed 53 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbled and recovered another two fumbles, which has him on pace for his eighth Pro Bowl season.
The Steelers said head coach Mike Tomlin will provide an update on Watt when appropriate.
