Dolphins tailback De’Von Achane injures ribs against Jets
The Miami Dolphins lost one of the team’s top playmakers in 2025 when De’Von Achane left Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with a rib injury he sustained in the second quarter.
Achane, who coming into Sunday’s game had been one of the NFL’s hottest tailbacks, seemingly was injured at the conclusion of a 29-yard run when Jets cornerback Isaiah Johnson dragged him down by twisting his left leg.
Achane got up in pain and was examined in the medical tent. He limped into the locker room before halftime and is questionable to return for the second half. However, it’s doubtful he’ll play another snap because the Dolphins were leading 24-7 at the half, and it’s clear the Jets are overmatched based on how the game was playing out.
Achane, who came into the game with 1,034 rushing yards, left Sunday’s contest having gained 92 rushing yards and scoring a rushing touchdown on nine carries. He also caught one pass, gaining 13 yards.
If Achane broke his ribs it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to play for the next few weeks because rib injuries typically sideline players from three to six weeks, but the severity of the injury does come into play. If Achane only bruised his ribs it’s possible he might finish the season on the field.
Ollie Gordon II, a rookie, and Jaylen Wright, who is in his second season, are the Dolphins’ backup tailbacks.
Gordon has the second-most carries this season, but that partly has to do with the knee injury Wright suffered in training camp, which impacted his performance and practice participation in the first two months of the season.
