Dolphins starting offensive line set to play against Colts
Every member of the Miami Dolphins’ starting offensive line will play in Sunday’s season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
That means James Daniels, the Dolphins’ biggest offseason signing, will be playing through the left ankle injury he sustained in Thursday’s practice, which had his listed as questionable for the game.
This will be the first time since the first week of training camp the Dolphins entire offensive line will be intact because Austin Jackson broke a toe in his foot during the second padded practice of training camp and was shut down for a month.
Jackson, who will play right guard, is expected to help the Dolphins’ run game improve because that’s that has been his strength since entering the league in 2018 as a second round pick.
Larry Borom, Kion Smith and Daniel Brunskill will serve as the backups on the offensive line because Kendall Lamm, who was added two weeks ago, was made one of the seven inactive players.
The Dolphins elevated tailback Jeff Wilson Jr. and kicker Riley Patterson from the practice squad to address the absence of Wright and kicker Jason Sanders, who began the season on injured reserve because of a hip injury that will need four weeks to heal.
The fact Miami didn’t elevate a tight end means the Dolphins will face the Colts with only two tight ends — Julian Hill and Tanner Conner — on the game day roster, which could be problematic if one of those two suffers an injury because Miami’s two-tight end set is their base offensive package.
It’s possible that Alec Ingold, the team’s starting fullback, could fill some of the tight end role, especially the movement role, which will be played by Conner, who is replacing Waller, who supposedly suffered a setback to his hip injury this week.
