The 187-point performance marks the highest finish by any Florida team in the event’s history. Heriman-Utah scored 83 points to win the national championship.

Leading the pack for the Wolverines was Marcelo Mantecon, who covered the extremely muddy and hilly 5K course at Glendoveer Golf Course in 15 minutes 37 seconds. He placed 23rd overall and was the top freshman finisher. Closely behind Marcelo was senior teammate Joshua Ruiz in 15:42, good for 32nd place of 201 runners.

Other standouts in the team scoring for Belen were Joey Ruiz (82nd, 16:10), Justin Ruiz (101st, 16:22) and Joseph Socarras (125th, 16:32).

This marked the second consecutive time that the Wolverines qualified for the national meet and third time in program history.

As for that historic season, for the 51st consecutive season, Belen advanced to the FHSAA State Cross-Country Championship, where it won its seventh consecutive state title. With that team victory, Belen improved on its own state mark for most consecutive team titles. Also, Belen has totaled 15 state championships, the most of any high school cross-country team in Florida history. Prior, the Wolverines won their 21st consecutive region title and 27th overall.
