QB Aaron Rodgers breaks his silence on NFL future. This is what he intends to do
The saga surrounding quarterback Aaron Rodgers future is over.
Set to enter his 19th NFL season, Rodgers announced on the Pat McAfee Show, which garnered more than 400,000 viewers at the start of his Wednesday appearance, he plans on playing for the New York Jets.
“I haven’t been holding up anything at this point,” Rodgers said on the show. “It’s been compensation the Packers are trying to get.”
The new NFL league year starts at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, so no deals can officially be signed until that time. However, the negotiating period opened Monday at 12 p.m., and various agreements with free agents have been reported.
In the two-day window prior to Wednesday’s new league year beginning, several reports said Rodgers had given a wish list of targets he wanted the Jets to pursue.
They included wide receiver Allen Lazard, wide receiver Randall Cobb, tight end Marcedes Lewis and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Rodgers, a four-time MVP with a career passer rating of 103.6, played with Lazard, Cobb and Lewis for the Packers, while Beckham last appeared in an NFL game in Super Bowl 56 with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Jets are signing Lazard to a four-year, $44 million deal, ESPN reported.
Rodgers refuted the report that he has a wish list of former teammates for the Jets to target. He said on the Pat McAfee Show that the Jets asked him about former teammates and he said glowing things about them, but he never had a demands list.
