South Florida native and NFL legend Frank Gore charged with assault. Here’s why
South Florida native Frank Gore, who had a storied collegiate and NFL career, was charged with simple assault stemming from an alleged July incident in Atlantic City, according to multiple reports.
The Atlantic City Police Department said in a news release that “patrol units were dispatched to Tropicana Atlantic City for a report of a domestic violence dispute.”
“Officers arrived to find the victim, a 28-year-old woman from Miami, Florida, speaking with hotel security,” the release added.
The police said in the release that the woman did not show any signs of injury and no complaints were filed at the time, but an investigation that followed resulted in Gore being charged for an alleged domestic violence incident.
TMZ Sports reported Gore allegedly grabbed the woman, who was naked, by the hair and dragged her along the 59th floor of the Tropicana Casino’s Havana Tower.
CBS Sports reported the incident occurred July 31.
Gore, a five-time Pro Bowler, retired from the NFL in the offseason as the game’s third-leading rusher of all time. A Coral Gables High alum, Gore starred at the University of Miami before playing 10 seasons for the San Francisco 49ers followed by stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.
Gore returned to the Niners on a one-day contract to retire and shift into a boxing career.
According to reports and court documents, Gore is scheduled to appear at a court hearing in October.
