Even Justin Thomas throws funny shade at Jimbo Fisher after PGA Championship win
Fresh off becoming a two-time major champion, Justin Thomas poked some fun at last week’s college football’s war of words between Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Thomas, who played college golf at Bama, was asked on Sirius XM’s PGA Tour channel about how long he will celebrate the PGA Championship victory that was accomplished Sunday in a three-hole playoff over Will Zalatoris at Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Southern Hills Country Club.
“I got a 24-hour rule,” said Thomas, mirroring Saban’s 24-hour rule. “I’m not sure what Jimbo Fisher’s rule is, I guess he’s got to win something first before he figures out his rule. I don’t know. I’m playing next week, so we’ll enjoy it, but at the same time, we’re in the middle of a very, very big stretch this season. So it’s great to be able to spend this time with my team, but it’s back to work.”
Last week, Saban spoke in Birmingham, Alabama, where he alleged this year’s top high school football recruit was paid NIL money to attend Jackson State and play for Deion Sanders while also saying Texas A&M bought its recruiting class, which ranked No. 1 in the nation.
Fisher responded in a news conference. He called Saban a narcissist and said his program didn’t buy one player.
