The Chargers were tame on the Dolphins, but trolled other NFL teams in anime video

The Los Angeles Chargers content team took their 2022 NFL schedule release video to another level by trolling several teams, including former Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer via an anime video on social media.

The NFL schedule release Thursday gave each franchise’s social media and content teams a chance to shine in creative and innovative ways.

The Los Angeles Chargers took it to another level, though they kept things tame during the part where they revealed the week they are playing the Miami Dolphins.

The Chargers went with an anime theme with an innocent start to the 2-minute, 7-second video before going full brutal trolling at different points.

For the Week 3 game with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chargers reveal over four seconds went right in on the controversial season of former head coach Urban Meyer. They showed a Jaguar dressed in the same outfit Meyer wore when a video circulated of him in an Ohio bar with a younger woman grinding on his lap.

In the release anime video, the Chargers team showed the clothed Jaguar sitting alone in a bar looking sad.

Later, the Week 5 game versus the Browns had just graphic that read, “Redacted on advice of our lawyers.” That’s a reference to the Browns trading for quarterback DeShaun Watson despite multiple women accusing him of sexual misconduct. Watson was cleared of criminal charges, but faces several civil suits over the allegations.

For the Week 7 reveal, the Seahawks were torched with a Chargers player laying flowers on a grave in a cemetery that referenced of some of Seattle’s sports shortcoming moments via headstones.

The one that the flowers are laid on says, “Legion of Boom 2011-2018,” while the Super Bowl 49 decision to throw instead of running Marshawn Lynch at the goal line and the 2001 Seattle Mariners falling short of the World Series were mentioned, too.

The Chargers hit at the Falcons by showing a Falcon slamming into a Waffle House sign that took the W off as the board underneath says 28 percent off three waffles or more. That pokes fun at the Falcons blowing a 28-3 lead in Super Bowl 51 to the New England Patriots.

A division rival, the Raiders were mocked with a dumpster showing a Chucky Doll in reference to former head coach Jon Gruden and the brief time Antonio Brown was with the team by showing, “AB’s discarded helmets,” and pirate ship in a bottle.

They also roasted the Broncos, another division rival, with an image of new quarterback Russell Wilson and the phrase, “Let Russ Cook,” on his bandana only to have Mile High Stadium burning in the background.

And another offseason topic was ripped from the Chargers when mentioning their Week 12 opponent, the Arizona Cardinals. That featured Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray about to delete all social media ties to his team.

As far as Week 14 when the Chargers play the Dolphins, they went light just showing a Chargers player riding a dolphin in the ocean.

But they took more jabs with Week 16 opponents, the Indianapolis Colts. They showed former punter Pat McAfee, who hosts his own sports talk show the Pat McAfee Show, in a booth labeled “Colts Quarterback Carousel,” as he pulls a lever that shows the various quarterbacks that the Colts have had over the last several seasons.

And for their cross town rivals, the Rams, the Chargers social media team shows the defending Super Bowl champs with draft picks burning above them.
