This NFL team drafted Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam in the first round
Florida defensive back Kaiir Elam is heading to the NFL.
On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills selected Elam with the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft’s first round.
Elam, a Palm Beach Gardens Benjamin alumnus, had NFL.com’s fourth-highest score among cornerbacks prior to the draft at 6.38. During the Combine earlier this year, Elam ran a 4.39 second official 40-yard dash time.
Elam is also an NFL legacy with his father, Abram, playing safety for the Cowboys, Jets, Browns and Chiefs from 2006 to 2012.
Kaiir Elam tallied 79 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, six interceptions, a fumble recovery and 26 passes defended in his three years for the Gators. He also was a first-team all-SEC player in 2020.
“Elam possesses high-end explosiveness out of direction changes, and he also has incredibly fluid hips,” Pro Football Network wrote in his draft profile. “He completes challenging direction changes with ease and quickness, and he can stop and start with impressive suddenness and control. His recovery athleticism is phenomenal and a central part of his game.”
