Former Heat, Celtics star Ray Allen’s beef with Kevin Garnett ends. Here’s how it ended
The beef between former NBA stars Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett is no more.
It ended when the former teammates embraced each other at Garnett’s jersey retirement ceremony for the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
“It’s good to see Ray Allen here, real s---,” said Garnett, before Allen left his seat and hugged KG.
The feud began when Allen broke up Boston’s Big 3, which consisted of himself, Garnett and Paul Pierce, to join the Miami Heat. The Celtics had won one NBA championship during their stint together, while the sharpshooting Allen’s legacy in South Florida was stamped with a clutch three-pointer in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals.
The Heat trailed the San Antonio Spurs by three points at the end of regulation and faced elimination down 3-2 in the best-of-7 series. Allen’s shot forced overtime, which the Heat won and then they captured the franchise’s third, and last to date, NBA title.
Allen’s departure for the Heat, a rival of the Celtics, ignited animosity from his former Celtic teammates. Garnett said in the past that he lost Allen’s phone number after Allen’s move to the Heat and he did not greet Allen in the first Celtics-Heat game following the move in 2012.
Allen missed Pierce’s 2018 jersey retirement during the feud, which saw five former Celtics, including Garnett and Pierce, talk about the grudge.
But all that began ending during the NBA’s All-Star weekend this year when the three were named to the NBA’s 75th anniversary team and Sunday solidified that with Allen was in attendance at Garnett’s jersey retirement, where Garnett mentioned Allen and the two hugged with Pierce joining in, too.
