FSU star warns football players boycotting over head coach’s George Floyd comments

Florida State football players might boycott workouts after statements first-year head coach Mike Norvell made about George Floyd’s death.

Marvin Wilson, a senior defensive tackle for the Seminoles, responded to a tweet regarding Norvell’s statement given Tuesday to The Athletic about Floyd, a black male who died while being restrained by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Chauvin was fired, arrested and charged with murder while three other officers on the scene are facing charges, according to multiple reports.

Norvell, who FSU hired from Memphis to replace Willie Taggart last December, told The Athletic he communicated with each player individually, and that was something Wilson contended on social media late Wednesday night.

“Man this [expletive] did not happen,” Wilson tweeted.

Wilson also said him and his teammates are outraged and would not work out until further notice.

Last Friday, Norvell replied to Hall of Famer Tony Dungy’s tweet about the protests unfolding in Minnesota.

“It’s heartbreaking seeing the events that have taken place throughout our country this week as well as the countless number of injustices done out of hate, discrimination, and ignorance throughout my lifetime,” Norvell said in a tweet. “This is an incredible message & perspective we all must stand together.”
