The NBA’s Slam Dunk Contest during the 2020 All-Star Weekend in Chicago was epic and controversial.

Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr., nicknamed “Airplane Mode,” and Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon put on a dunking clinic that treated fans to a sudden-death styled dunk-off to determine the winner.

Those fans, who were electrified by the back and forth ridiculous dunks from both players, let out a collective groan when Gordon’s final dunk, over 7-foot-5 Tacko Fall, received a 47 out of 50 from the five judges.

It didn’t sit well with Gordon, who scored perfect on his previous five dunks, following the contest that Saturday night in February, and it led him to release a diss track at midnight on Monday.

The track, Gordon’s second in rap music, is targeted at one of the judges that gave him a nine out of 10 score — Heat legend Dwyane Wade.

The title of the song is, “9 out of 10,” and begins with Gordon sipping wine from a couch while watching a replay of the dunk contest.

“Nine out of 10, I’m a keep it zen,” Gordon raps at the start of the song. “Nine out of 10, can you please fix your lens?”

Wade wore glasses during the contest. Gordon drops his shades slightly while delivering the line.

Later, Gordon says in a verse, “saw you in the hallway, you said, ‘Youngin’ put on a show,’ didn’t know that’s the code for, ‘You’re about to get rolled.’ Even Adam Silver told me I deserve the gold.”

Following the controversial finish, one of the judges, former Chicago Bulls forward Scottie Pippen addressed a plan to keep Gordon tied with Jones by awarding the dunk over Fall with a 48 during an appearance on ESPN, the Herald previously reported.

“There was a little bit of a pact, but somehow we punched the scores in and they came up wrong,” Pippen said. “We just messed up. ... The reality of it is we thought we were giving them both a tie to go back in the final round.”

It’s the second time Gordon finished runner-up in the Slam Dunk Contest.

Former Heat player Justise Winslow, who was traded to the Grizzlies in February, tweeted about the diss track.

“They shoulda let me write the diss track,” Winslow said on Twitter. “I got all the dirt on bro. And I know how to get in his head.”
