This World Cup soccer star was tested for the coronavirus
As uncertainty looms surrounding the immediate future of sporting events due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic sweeping the globe, a star from the 2018 FIFA World Cup has been tested as a precaution.
Kylian Mbappe, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, was tested for the coronavirus Tuesday, according to French publication L’Equipe.
The outlet reports Mbappe has not trained in the past two days because he has been sick with severe angina, a type of chest pain, and the results of the precautionary coronavirus test should be known Tuesday night or Wednesday.
L’Equipe reports Mbappe is likely to test negative for coronavirus, instead for rifle angina.
Mbappe was a revelation for France in the 2018 World Cup, scoring three of his four goals for Les Bleus in the knockout phase of the tournament, including two against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the Round of 16. France won the World Cup over Croatia, with Mbappe scoring a goal in the 4-2 victory.
PSG plays host to Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of its UEFA Champions League Round of 16 knockout tie on Wednesday. The French side trails 2-1 in aggregate to Dortmund, a German club.
Italy’s top flight, Serie A, has seen matches played in empty stadiums and could see the rest of the season suspended. Currently, Italy’s entire country is under a lockdown due to COVID-19, according to CNBC.
