Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy wears a Star of David necklace. Not for the reason you might think.
Former Deerfield Beach High star Jerry Jeudy is one of the coveted wide receivers in this year’s NFL draft class.
On Tuesday in Indianapolis, Jeudy, who had a standout career at Alabama, was asked ahead of this week’s NFL Combine about a particular object that sits around his neck.
It’s a Star of David necklace, a traditional Jewish faith symbol.
“My last name’s Jeudy,” he told reporters at the combine. “People sometimes call me short for Jeu, like Jeu one, so I just got a Jewish star. But I’m not Jewish, though.”
The comments drew a laugh at the Combine and went viral on social media.
Jeudy, whose height is listed at 6-1, produced his biggest receiving stats in his final college game for the Crimson Tide. He snagged six catches for 204 yards and a touchdown in a Citrus Bowl victory over Michigan. For the season, Jeudy tallied 77 receptions for 1,163 yards and 10 TDs.
After Jeudy’s explanation for wearing a Star of David necklace went viral, he tweeted an apology.
