Florida State’s 2020 signing class was in danger of being a mess after the Seminoles fired coach Willie Taggart, who is now at FAU, weeks from December’s early signing period.

But the hiring of Mike Norvell from Memphis and the staff he assembled turned a dire situation into a 20-player signing class in December.

With more time on the recruiting trail leading into Wednesday’s National Signing Day, Norvell and Co. landed even more players to the #Tribe20 haul.

The Seminoles added eight players to their recruiting class, one from the junior college ranks and seven from high school. FSU had 10 players targeted.

Only Malachi Wideman, who is from Sarasota and played at Venice High last season, and Donovan Kaufman did not sign with the Seminoles. Wideman, an athletic wide receiver who played travel basketball with Dwyane Wade’s son, decommitted from the Noles following December’s early signing period. He chose Tennessee, getting recruited by Chris Weinke, who won a Heisman Trophy playing quarterback for FSU and was IMG Academy’s first head football coach before pursuing other opportunities.

Kaufman, a safety, chose Vanderbilt over FSU and Ole Miss.

Among those who did sign letters of intent, the Noles received pledges at running back, linebacker, offensive lineman, defensive back, wide receiver, tight end, athlete and defensive end.

La’Damian Webb, who is rated the No. 3 junior college running back according to the 247 Sports’ composite rankings, and offensive tackle Robert Scott kicked off Wednesday’s signing day for FSU with letters of intent to join the Seminoles.

Both players previously were committed to the Noles. FSU also received signatures from linebacker DJ Lundy, who also received consideration from Georgia and Virginia Tech, defensive back Sidney Williams, wide receiver Darion Williamson, tight end Markeston Douglas, athlete Corey Wren and defensive end TJ Davis.
